A Complete Guide to Feeding Your Month-Old Puppy I Dog Day Care Hyderabad

Updated: Mar 3

Within the first two months of life, puppies should be staying close to their mothers but this is not always possible for all puppies. Luckily, a kind human like you is willing to take care of the fragile little puppy and take feeding it into your own hands. Puppies at one-month-old are still very fragile and should be fed at the right time with the right food.

This guide will help you how to feed your puppy correctly.

What Should You Be Feeding Your Puppy

Most puppies don’t develop teeth until they’re over four weeks old. Until then, you should be feeding your puppy mostly milk. If milk from the puppy’s mother is not available, goat’s milk can be used as a substitute but never give your puppy cow’s milk. Cow’s milk may cause constipation and diarrhea in puppies which can be fatal to them.

At one-month-old, your puppy should slowly be introduced to dry dog food. Give your pet dog food that is specially formulated for month-old puppies. Canned dog food can be mixed with water or milk and dry puppy kibble should be soaked in water to be softened as well. To encourage your puppy to try the food, make your puppy lick the food off your finger.

When Should You Be Feeding Your Puppy

Puppies need small, frequent meals throughout the first few months of life as they transition from mother's milk to solid food. Puppies digest food more easily and have more stable energy levels when fed three or four times a day. However, it's crucial to avoid overfeeding them because overweight puppies have a higher chance of growing up to be overweight adult dogs.

Toy breeds require four to six meals a day for the first three months while medium-breed puppies need three meals and bigger breeds need three to four meals per day.

The quality of the food you’re feeding your puppy is most important so make sure to buy only from trusted pet food suppliers like NB Pet Store. Make sure to consult your vet before changing your puppy’s diet.
